Much of my childhood – many of my best memories are sustained by my first love; my dog Samantha.
She was gone too soon but is always remembered fondly.

And Max. He strove to go where no dog had gone before.

CW tells about Satchmo teaching the ropes to the puppy.

CW remembers losing his dog Benji.

I’ve honestly never known any animal who could tell a story worth a damn.

On the upside, most animals are terrible liars, and mainly, they abstain from that dubious practice.

Only as animals approach humans in appearance and intelligence do they begin to practice deceit.

Dogs are known as man’s best friend because they are generally more trustworthy than other men.

I aspire to be the man my dog thinks

I am.

PETS

Pets don’t tell stories.

But their lives fill our stories.

So much of our time is spent sharing affection with our loyal ‘best friends,’ the prospect of living without them is fraught with anxiety.

Think of all they do for us including but not limited to:

  • Exercise. They take us for walks and play with us.
  • Protection. They are our sentinels to danger.
  • Sixth sense. Their moods cue us to things we cannot sense.
  • Extermination. They are great at pest control.
  • Affection.  Bestowers of affection, even if you aren't in the mood.
  • Humanity. They are our ‘other’ whom we serve to enrich our lives.
  • Therapy. They sense our moods and lend us emotional support.
  • Loyalty. By many accounts more loyal than children.
  • Serenity. They share the good times and the bad.
